David's Key

Opening doors for the Gospel

"I will place on his shoulder the key of the house of David. He shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open." — Isaiah 22:22

In every broken door and damaged home, we see an open door for the Gospel. David's Key is FBC Gordon's ministry to families in Gordon, TX affected by the tornado of May 2025 — meeting practical needs and carrying the love of Christ into living rooms, front yards, and lives in need of hope.

For Volunteer Teams

What to expect when you come

We want your team's time to be well-used and meaningful. Here's how a typical service trip to David's Key works.

1
Contact Us & Register Your Team

Reach out to Liz to let her know your team size, skill level, and available dates. We'll begin matching you with work sites and families in need.

2
Receive Your Assignment

Before you arrive, you'll know what kind of work to expect and what tools or materials to bring. We'll handle the logistics so your team can hit the ground running.

3
Arrive & Get to Work

Teams gather at FBC Gordon for a brief orientation and prayer before heading to work sites. Each site has a point of contact to guide the work throughout the day.

4
Share Life With the People You Serve

The work is the doorway — not the destination. Take time to listen, pray with families, and be present. That's what David's Key is really about.

5
Debrief & Celebrate

At the end of the day, teams gather to share stories, give thanks, and celebrate what God did through willing hands. It always ends in worship.

Bring what you have — basic hand tools are always helpful. For larger materials (lumber, drywall, paint), we'll communicate ahead of time what's needed. Don't let a lack of tools stop you from coming — we can often source materials and equipment locally.

Youth teams (middle and high school) are very welcome. Minors must be accompanied by adult supervisors from their group, and we'll assign tasks appropriate for their age. Contact Liz ahead of time so we can plan accordingly.

We can help connect teams with local lodging options and in some cases host teams at the church facility. Reach out to Liz early so we can make the best arrangements for your group's size and budget.

Families affected by the tornado can fill out the request form above or call the church at 254.693.5586. There is no cost and no application process — we just want to help. Liz will follow up with you personally.

Absolutely. Financial gifts toward materials and supplies are a huge help. You can give through our Give page and designate your gift to David's Key. If you'd like to donate specific materials, contact us first so we can direct them where they're needed most.
