Knowing Jesus & Making Him Known
We are a Christ-centered, Bible-believing Baptist church placed in the heart of Palo Pinto County, Texas. For generations, First Baptist Church of Gordon has been a place where families are strengthened, faith is deepened, and the gospel of Jesus Christ is proclaimed — to our neighbors, our county, and the world.
Jesus
At First Baptist Church of Gordon, everything begins with knowing Jesus. We believe that a personal relationship with Him changes everything — from the way we live to the way we love others.
Knowing Jesus isn't just about information or tradition; it's about transformation. Through prayer, worship, Bible study, and community, we seek to walk closely with Jesus, hear His voice, and follow His lead.
Our goal is to help every person — whether they're brand new to faith or have followed Christ for years — grow deeper in their love for Him.
Known
Once we know Jesus, we can't help but share Him with others. Making Jesus known is at the heart of everything we do — from serving our neighbors in Gordon, to supporting missionaries around the world.
Whether it's through acts of kindness, gospel conversations, or missions and outreach, we want our lives to reflect the love and truth of Jesus.
We believe the hope we've found in Him is too good to keep to ourselves, and our prayer is that everyone we meet will come to know the same grace, peace, and purpose we've found in Christ.
We believe the Bible is the inspired, inerrant, and authoritative Word of God — our complete guide for faith and life. Every sermon and teaching is anchored in Scripture.
We believe salvation comes through faith alone, in Christ alone, by grace alone. Jesus died for our sins, rose from the dead, and is the only way to eternal life.
We believe in one God eternally existing in three persons — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — co-equal and co-eternal, each distinct yet one in essence and purpose.
We practice baptism by immersion as a public declaration of faith following conversion — not as a means of salvation, but as an outward sign of an inward transformation.
We observe communion as a memorial ordinance — a time to remember Christ's sacrifice, proclaim His death, and anticipate His return in the presence of the gathered church body.
We are called to go and make disciples of all nations. Local outreach, global missions, and everyday gospel conversations are all expressions of this central calling of the church.
We believe the local church — a body of baptized believers — is God's primary instrument for carrying out His mission in the world through worship, discipleship, and service.
We believe in the literal, bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ and His promised return. All people will face resurrection — believers to eternal life, others to eternal judgment.
We affirm that marriage is a covenant between one man and one woman, and that family is a gift from God designed to reflect the relationship between Christ and His church.
Our church affirms the Baptist Faith & Message 2000 as a summary of our doctrinal commitments and is affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention. For the full statement of faith, visit fbcgordon.org/what-we-believe.
